Why?

“Why do you get out of bed in the morning, and why should anyone care?”

These words are spoken by Simon Sinek just before the three-minute mark in the video that follows.  As Wikipedia explains,

simono-sinek

Simon O. Sinek (born October 9, 1973) is an author best known for popularizing a concept of The Golden Circle.

He joined the RAND Corporation in 2010 as an adjunct staff member, where he advises on matters of military innovation and planning. His first TEDx Talk on “How Great Leaders Inspire Action” is the 7th most viewed video on TED.com.

His 2009 book on the same subject, Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action (2009) delves into what he says is a naturally occurring pattern, grounded in the biology of human decision-making, that explains why we are inspired by some people, leaders, messages and organizations over others.

He has commented for The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Houston Chronicle, FastCompany, CMO Magazine, NPR and BusinessWeek, and is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post, BrandWeek, IncBizNet.

This new year that we are now in is going to require millions of us to think and do differently.  As Einstein so famously quoted, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results“.  More than ever before we need different results and that means thinking and doing differently.

  1. Indeed, in the yes of Einstein, I’m an insane man. In 2013, I need to remind myself not to repeat the same stupid mistakes. I need to be more self-control. I need to be more creative and innovative. Wish you a better 2013.

  2. I guess now I know Paul why when I act upon my GUT instincts I can never say WHY i acted so.. as my brain has no language to explain that ‘Feeling’ Just as I often say I have this ‘Knowing’ I can never explain how often that Knowing has proved me right…

Paul thank you for all your most interesting posts … I haven’t always been able to drop over and comment.. But I have read many of your posts via email link..

I have Great HOPE for 2013 for those who go with their Gut Instincts and I hope soon that when that percentage tips the scales and understand that they need to Believe Changes in the World is needed.. Because lets face it.. we know its not working!…

Lets hope we can create a new recipe for success… And that is to share Love… Not live for profit… and why we should all be loving ourselves more.. and sharing it more..

I Believe….. We are all the ones who have a Dream! and when we believe we are important… then we need to create our Dreams and share them… For we are the Ones we have been waiting for… We need to all have faith and believe We each can make a difference… It all starts with Self…. We are all of us responsible for creating a better future for our World… it can only start Right Now….

Happy New Year Paul to both you and Jean… Many Blessings for you both in 2013…
    Sue 🙂

    1. Dear Sue, what more can I add to your insightful words other than to say a very big thank you. If 2013 sees the ideas that you mention above, and so often write about on your own blog, become widespread common knowledge then, indeed, it will be a momentous year. Fondest wishes, Paul

  3. This ‘golden circle’ thing is all very well, but, if one believes to in the very core of one’s inner being that the human race is screwed, well, um… 🙂

    1. Now there’s a debate! Like you, I think the outlook is grim. But I also muse whether in a few years time there will have been such an uprising of anger towards the old ways that change will be on its way. Wouldn’t want to bet on it either way.
