2020 vision

A moving, sensitive video about the Arctic.

I won’t let on why I called this post ‘2020 vision’ but if you watch the video below to just before the 7-minute mark the use of the number 2020 will become clear.

This video came to my attention from a recent post on Climate Crocks.  It’s a strongly powerful message about the changes going on in Arctic region and the profound effect those changes will have on the rest of the planet.  Indeed, many experiencing the recent weather in North-West Europe will amend the future tense of my sentence to present tense!

You can read more here about Professor Ken Dunton at the University of Texas where he is Professor, Department of Marine Science.

He is the sort of person that we should be listening to very carefully as the world changes in ways not seen for tens of thousands of years.

    1. You are observing what millions of others are starting to realise: Planet Earth is a dynamic, natural system. The next few years will make that obvious to all. Starting with the Arctic possibly being ice free by 2020.

  1. Are all of these people who are speaking up about climate change also pushing for worldwide family planning? Educating people to weather changes (caused also by power plants, not just by the fuel) without the necessity of 2-child families is much like throwing a snowball at the sun, is it not?

    1. You are quite correct, of course, in that proposition. The ugly aspect of the dynamic, natural system that we live within is that that same system will ‘correct’ our unsustainably high global population; family planning or not!

  2. We are in a loop which I doubt we will recover from… I was given a date some time ago of 2017 where by we will see many major changes to our way of being as the levels of the ocean rises and our climate weather patterns alter irrevocably and natural disasters occur…
It saddens my heart that our wildlife out in the Arctic have no where to go but drown………. Something we humans should seriously think about as the years progress to 2020 ..

    1. Sue, for what it’s worth, I have been musing that by the end of Obama’s first year of office this time around, i.e. end of 2013, the planet will be making it very obvious to all who think for a moment about the situation. And by the end of Obama’s term as President, the die will be cast.

In other words, the time for all Governments to be making this their highest political priority is very, very short. I fervently hope that I am wrong.

  3. very rare do you find a calm voice…energy amongst the fear mongers these days…
Nature will always right Herself….it will seem more extreme because no one pays attention I think
I read an article in a Russian paper awhile back about global warming
the writer was a scientist who studies not just earth’s melting ice but the planets in our solar system
the other planets had more warming, it is a cycle as anything else in life…he said yes the US (and all over the world) contributes to the global warming, but unlike earth the others planets do not have SUV’s, cars, big trucks, ect….instead of placing blame on America or China or the country of the week, the world should be observing the changes as natural…destructive yes, but a new construction will come out of it…
This was an interesting post, I enjoyed it…I will wander and read more of the professors thoughts
    Thank you for sharing
