The unmissable view from the ‘top’!

You don’t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing.”  George Bernard Shaw.

Recently sent to me by Lindy C. from Devon, England.

This  is dedicated to all of us who are seniors, to all of you who know seniors, and to all of you who will become seniors.

WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?”  The irate customer calling the newspaper office, loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.

Madam“,  said the newspaper employee, “today is Saturday.  The Sunday paper is not delivered until  tomorrow, on SUNDAY.

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition as Madam was heard to mutter under her breath, “Well, shit, that explains why there was no one at church either!

oooOOOooo

As British comedian Bob Monkhouse is reputed to have said, “Growing old is compulsory; growing up is optional.”  (NB. More fabulous quotations from this naturally very funny man may be found here.)

On the subject of Bob Monkhouse, let me close with this video of Norman Wisdom appearing on the Bob Monkhouse Show back in 1983.  As one of the YouTube commentators put it, “Two of Britains funniest men; we will never seek their likes again.

    1. Ah, there’s a question! As I’ve written before on LfD, back in Devon, England, where I spent much of the last 20 years before meeting Jeannie, the old ‘born and bred’ Devonians had this expression (you’ll have to imagine the rich, old-county accent of these fellas),

All the world’s a little queer except thee and me, and I ha’ me doubts about thee!

So when it comes to deciding who is certifiable, whether or not they are a Senior, there’s plenty of choice! 😉

  1. I can remember listening to comic like Red Skelton, Abbott & Costello, and Danny Kay and could not stop laughing. Those of you that remember the great who’s on First routine done by Abbott & Costello will probably wonder how these greats were so funny without being so vulgar as some of today so-called comic are.

      1. Per, I may have confused you. My previous reply was to Oma who has a delightful blog site Cottage Life In England. It was from there that I learned her age and ventured my comment!

But WordPress placed by reply under your comment!! But as they say back in the old country, “If the cap fits ….”

      2. I always thought that Leading Edge Technology was more accurately described as Crumbling Edge Technology! (Not my invention, by the way!)

      3. Indeed it does! When I came over here to Tennessee last week, I brought with me some dvds. One of them was a compilation of Norman Wisdom films!
