A talk at The Royal Institution.
Does your dog really love you? Can dogs understand human emotions? And what’s the history of dogs and scientific research?
Jules Howard, author of the book Wonderdog, speaks for nearly an hour about the cognition of these incredible animals.
P.S. Jeannie is certain I have posted something similar not too long ago. If that is the case then my apologies.
I’m at an age where if you posted something like this before, I won’t remember. It’s a side benefit to getting old. As for science proving or disproving the emotions of dogs, I don’t need that. Experience says they feel deeply and even grieve. They understand so many words and even the intention of those words. Dogs love even other species, hoping to teach us the lesson. I think we are too dumb to learn from them. I do feel sorry for dogs with bad pack leaders though.

Marlene, this getting old lark is the pits. That’s my opinion! Turning to dogs, they are so, so special. Had I not met Jeannie in 2007 I would have had no idea in the slightest what dogs would mean to humans. Nor started the blog! Nor fallen in love big time! ❤️

You are right about getting old but I’m facing the alternative so I’m very happy to muddle through the hard stuff. The was a greater plan when you two met. You both did a lot of great work and have each other through the hard stuff. Dogs are just the best creatures of all of us.

I am very aware, Marlene, that Jean and I are perfectly suited to each other albeit Jean’s Parkinson’s disease, diagnosed in 2015, is a nuisance. But we are clear of cancer, thank goodness, and there is no sign of it. Hopefully our diet keeps the big C permanently away.
