1. Love your pictures, Paul. Although seeing that fence gives me the cold chills. We disentangled many deer corpses from fences like that. We had 14 acres of fence like that. Humans. What are we gonna do? Hopefully these deer stay safe for a very long time with you going out there every morning to check on them and give them a treat! ♥️

   1. Bela, that fence surrounds an old horse paddock, and the field gate is kept open by me. The deer use that gate so I am 99% confident they will not get caught by the fences. Plus, the open gate leads out to where I feed the deer.

      1. Excellent. Yes, our fences were so long that it was impossible to build enough gates and then keep the gates open. We were in cattle country, so it really was to keep the cows out. No easy solutions. We just took the top part of the fence and cut it down to make it easier for them to jump, which they were well accustomed to doing in that country unfortunately. The elk can clear a 4 foot fence, even the babies, but if they panic and we saw them panic more than once, they’ll run up and down that fence line looking for the opportunity to join the herd on the other side. For me anyway, it was heartbreaking to witness.
