Cleo was put to sleep yesterday afternoon.
Cleo’s rear legs were really troubling her so we went with her to Lincoln Road Vet yesterday at 1:45pm.
Around 2pm the doctor injected Cleo with firstly a deep sleep injection then after Cleo was asleep then the final injection.
Cleo was thirteen and the staff at Lincoln Road remarked that was a grand age for a German Shepherd.

Goodbye sweet girl! You will be missed!

Aww Dear Paul and Jean, I’m so very sorry about Cleo.
Goodnes, I remember her as a pup.
I know the void she will leave will be raw for a long while to come.
Sending big hugs to you both . 🤗
Along with my sincere condolences ❤️

Dear, dear Sue, thank you for your understanding. Now we have just Oliver to love. Jean and I were just talking about Oliver a few minutes ago and saying that he doesn’t appear to be pining for Cleo. Thank you again!❤️

That’s good at least, that Oliver isn’t pining .
Sending ❤️ to you both

We hadn’t thought of that! That Oliver not pining is good. Sooner or later we are going to think about getting another dog, probably a rescue dog. Because we cannot think of not having a dog here when Oliver comes to the end of his life. Even at our age, or should that be, because of our age!

You are wise, and I am sure Oliver would appreciate another companion x

So sorry to hear this news Paul. To me, that’s the toughest thing about owning a dog. They quickly become part of your family, but sadly their lives are too short.
You and Jean are in my thoughts and prayers.

Paul, you have expressed that perfectly. When I met Jean she had 23 dogs, back in 2007, and we came to America with 16 dogs. But every single loss has reinforced that fact, that they are our family.
Thank you for your thoughts! Paul.

Dear Val, dogs are so precious, are they not! With so much insane cruelty around the globe being able to love a family dog is tops!

I so understand Paul. Our oldest boy Teddy has an undiagnosed dying pancreas … that flared up. We went to the emergency vet and he went on a series of meds and antibiotics … and has bounced back to a teenage version of physical himself … along with the grumpy old man he actually is. We can give the understanding, love and meds… and at the end of the day we all know when it’s time to say goodbye. May Cleo’s passing bring relief and some lightness into your lives. 💖

Val, it’s too early to experience that relief and lightness; we still haven’t got used to Cleo not being around us anymore. But we are certain you are correct; it was time to say goodbye!
