Further to the post published on the 8th October, see here, it now looks as though the high altitude jump is now on.
Go to the Red Bull Stratus live website to view it as it happens.
Good luck to all concerned. (And thanks to Martin Lack for letting me know!)
Hi Paul, I know you may have been busy packing for your move so, you will be pleased to know that…
The whole thing, 5 yrs in the planning and 5 minutes in the diving, has been documented by a BBC Television production team; and will be broadcast in a 2-hour documentary on the National Geographic channel next month. Watching the last few moments before he jumped was literally out of this world; whereas it was hard to appreciate what was happening during the jump itself… I had to go off and do other things so I have not seen the press conference but, whatever the reason, it was a shame he had to pull his parachute early. Although, you could argue that it was nice of Baumgartner to leave one of Kittinger’s records (i.e. the longest duration of freefall) intact.

I packed with the live broadcast running in front of me. Then when he got within 15 minutes of the jump, Jean and I sat and watched! Spellbound!

Apparently, according to the BBC, eight million watched live as FB took that leap into the unknown. Jean and I watched in silence; it was beyond amazing, as you said.
