The dog does a wonderful act of discovery!
There was an item on BBC News recently that shows the devotion of dogs towards humans. Yet the story also shows how cruel a young mother can be towards her own baby.

Dogs are animals of integrity. We have much to learn from them.

I agree with you, Paul. Ping Pong is a hero. As for the young mother, there are precautions. She chose not to take advantage of them so no excuses for her.

That young mother is in need of care and that from a professional carer, Susan.

This story has many dimensions. And reading this, I’m still completely baffled how Asian countries still consider dogs (and cats) meat.

Oh John, that’s an issue that is crazy! As in crazy terrible! I can’t try to imagine what positive actions flow from that. I guess there must be some.

I heard about this story…truly remarkable. Alas there are multiple facets to the story and it makes a simple black or white response difficult.

I agree that it’s more complex than the story presents it. But I can’t accept easily the fact that the young mother buried her daughter alive.

It’s hard to determine from the story if the mother knew if the baby was alive following the birth and quickly tried to conceal the existence. Far be it for me to judge without all the information.

That’s a fair point.

My first thought was ‘what led the girl to make such a shocking decision?’. I don’t think any of us can imagine what it must have been like for her, to live in fear, hiding her pregnancy from her parents and to give birth, presumably alone somewhere and without help – she’s only 15 – can you imagine her terror and fear? This is a rural, poor part of Thailand, who knows what her level of education is (let alone sex education), and what the consequences would have been had she declared the pregnancy to her parents – given her extreme actions to avoid them we can only guess. The dog is undoubtedly the hero; the girl both victim and villain; the baby’s father, of course, absolved through absence.

Hi Amanda, what a thoughtful and reasonable comment. You are quite right, we do not have the full facts of the case.
