Remembering that Monday, 22nd April is Earth day, 2013. Like many others, I subscribe to Mother Nature Network. Recently published on MNN were twelve stunningly beautiful photographs. There are reproduced below, hopefully without infringing any copyrights. I just wanted to share them with readers of Learning from Dogs ahead of next Monday.

So you all have a great week-end, wherever you are in the world, and do something, however small, for the one and only planet that nourishes all the life of the world.
These should persuade people to be attentive to looking after planet earth. Beautiful collection of images.

Paul: breath-taking truly applies to your excellent selection of what is best about our beautiful planet.
So, here’s an equally breath-taking counterpoint from my own country

Look, I know we have to do what is necessary to survive as a people, but why does it have to be that a species so advanced can still find ways to justify actions that are so clearly counter to stewardship of our little home? Clearly there’s a gene or two we could do without.

Maurice, your profound question is, on one hand, easy to answer: Man’s quest to better himself without regard for others. Yet on the other hand impossible to answer. As you infer, for such an advanced species we seem to demonstrate the most fundamental stupidity of any species. Except, perhaps, for the Lemmings and look what happened to them!
