Learning from Dogs

Dogs are integrous animals. We have much to learn from them.

What We Still Don’t Know? Part 2

Why Are We Here?

On Tuesday, I introduced the first of three films hosted by Lord Martin Rees.  That was called Are We Alone.  I do hope many of you were able to watch that.  Film two is also from the website Top Documentary Films and the link is here.  But, again, the film is available in 5 parts from YouTube and follows below.

In total, just around an hour to watch and well worth while.  You will find, believer in God or not, that there are some deeply spiritual aspects to Martin Rees’ wonderful presentation.

Everything you thought you knew about the universe is wrong. It’s made of atoms, right?

Wrong. Atoms only account for a measly 15% of everything that exists!

The mass of the universe consists of something so mysterious and elusive that it has been dubbed ‘dark matter’.

The final film of the trilogy will be presented on Learning from Dogs next Tuesday, the 17th January.

  1. The (various) Higgs Boson scheme(s) have nothing to do with Dark Matter, which is an apparently observed astronomical phenomenon. I say “apparently” because observations depend up “Newtonian” gravitation, which we are not sure is valid at galactic cluster scale, and fails beyond that (that’s what Dark Energy is all about)…

In general Higgs, Dark Matter, and Dark Energy are completely different things.

I believe that it is more likely the weird Higgs declarations from CERN before shutting down LHC in December, had more to do with LOVE of MONEY… Hum, I mean on-going financing of various CERN activities… I think it’s likely they have nothing. Which is already something, come to think of it…

OK, let me rephrase this further: whatever happens next, it is now certain that new physics is needed (as UK/CERN professor John Ellis said in Nature last week).
