Animals are clever, and have a complex relationship to man. In Africa all serious wild animals in good standing know fully well man is the boss. I have seen an entire lion pride with many powerful lionesses slowly stand up and make way, as a small child, namely me, was walking slowly towards them. They graciously offered the shade they had been enjoying.

Lack of knowledge of man, or man at some new technological level, is why 100 species of the mega fauna got exterminated in the Americas (no, I do not believe in the recent, and somewhat ludicrous comet theory!)
