Shuttle Discovery launches without a hitch.

At 23.59 EDT, Shuttle Discovery lifts off from launch pad 39-A at the Kennedy Space Centre.

America frequently gets a bad press around the world but events like this are a reminder of the pioneering spirit of the American people. Long may that continue.

By the way, ever wondered what it is like to be inside the Shuttle during a launch?

Well, on YouTube there is a 10 minute video taken inside the cockpit (is that what it is called?).  The sound quality is not good and the actual launch is not until approximately 4 minutes into the video.  But it is worth being patient because it is an emotional ‘fly-on-the-wall’.  I love to fly but ……
